role: artist/ designer (2001)
The Lower East Side Tenement Museum’s Digital Artist in Residence Project (DARP) is an ongoing series of web-based artworks dedicated to the exploration of contemporary immigrant experiences. The Museum awarded it’s first DARP residency to Claudia Chow in the summer of 2001 to create “Banana: a Chinese-American Experience”. Banana is an interactive look at how a Chinese-American family attempts to maintain their Chinese traditions while adjusting to Western culture. Banana was a physical interactive exhibition installed in the Museum with an in-depth companion website which featured an online version of the exhibition, a history timeline of the Chinese in America, and videos of the visitor’s own immigration experiences.
